Frequently
Asked Questions
Q:
Do you have to remember to turn it off when it goes into standby?
A:
No, the plug automatically turns the power off when it enters standby
mode.
Q:
How do I turn it back on?
A: Press the green reset button on the plug
to restore the power to the appliance.
Q:
Do you need one for every appliance?
A: The plug has a single plug socket which
can take another extension strip , this in turn can have many appliances
plugged into it, but all of these would be turned off when one of
the appliances goes into standby ie tv-dvd,video,home cinema, this
is the best way to maximise your savings.
Q: Does it turn off immediately once the appliance goes into
standby?
A: No, there is a two minute delay until the
plug shuts off the power, reason for this incase the appliance is
turned off by mistake it doesn't need to be reset.
Q:
When i turn off my appliance it stays in standby mode and does not
turn off, why?
A: This is because the standby plug needs
the appliance to be on for at least 5 minutes to allow the plug
to set itself up.
Q:
How much power is used when the plug shuts the appliance down?
A: Zero power is consumed by the appliance.
However, the plug does continue to consume a very small amount of
power (0.4W). As a comparison, the lowest powered normal light bulb
consumes 40 watts of power – that’s 100 times as much
as Standby Shutdown!.
Q:
How many appliances can be connected to each Standby Plug socket?
A:
As many as are safe – the power rating of the Standby Plug
is 3000W so the combined power use of the appliances you connect
must not exceed this. Generally you would connect multiple appliances
to the Energenie Standby socket using a four- or six-way block.
Q:
Is the Standby Plug approved by the Energy Saving Trust?
A: Yes. To gain this approval, Standby Plug
had to pass a rigorous series of tests as laid down by the Energy
Saving Trust including demonstrating that it consumed less than
0.5W.
Q:
Is the Standby Plug approved for use in the UK?
A: Yes, Standby Plug conforms to all relevant
standards for use in the UK.
